THE FORMATIONAL
DESIGN MANIFESTO

Part One:
Foundational Principles
1.

Christlikeness: Our Ultimate Goal

In the beginning, God created us in His image, reflecting His creativity and purpose (Genesis 1:26-27). He entrusted us with the responsibility to steward His creation, nurturing its potential (Genesis 1:28-29). But then, sin entered the world, distorting our reflection of God's image and complicating our divine purpose (Genesis 3:17-19).

At TelosCreative, we live into this fundamental story. We understand that in today's distracted world, churches face the challenge of guiding their members back to their original purpose. Our formational design approach aims to cut through the digital noise, helping your church communicate in a way that forms people toward Christ.

By partnering with us, you'll receive communication strategies that not only inform but transform. We'll help you craft messages that remind your congregation of their divine image and purpose, guiding them towards a life aligned with God's kingdom. Together, we can create a digital presence that nurtures spiritual growth and deepens your community's connection with Christ, even amidst life's distractions.

2.

Attention: The Rudder of Our Souls

As 2 Corinthians 3:17a-18 reminds us, our attention shapes who we become. And in our distracted world, we are becoming more divided, disrupted, and deformed everyday. Guiding attention toward Christ is crucial for spiritual formation, and in our world, that has to happen digitally as well as interpersonally. That’s why we partner with you to turn your brand and media strategy into another way to guide your people’s attention toward Christ.

Our formational design approach empowers your church to break through digital noise, creating intentional touch points that direct your people’s focus to Jesus. By crafting beautiful, Christ-centered media, we help cultivate deeper connections with God's kingdom, transforming how your church communicates in the attention economy. Instead of using attention to deform people toward the world, we help churches intentionally guide their people’s attention toward Christ, trusting that the Holy Spirit will grow in us It’s Fruit.

People: Not Users

It has been said that there are only two industries that refer to their target audience as users: drug dealers and software companies. Too many platforms are designed with a single goal in mind: maximize "user" engagement. They fine-tune algorithms to keep people scrolling endlessly as they monetize their minds.

We need your church to take a different approach. We know you see the individuals in your church’s not as users to be exploited, but as souls to be nurtured. So why does your media strategy treat them as users?

We partner with churches to create digital experiences that guide people's focus towards Christ, not endless scrolling. We strive to respect attention, never to monetize it. We work to foster genuine connection with both Christ and his people, never at the expense of personal connection. We hope to transform "screen time" into opportunities for formation into Christlikeness. We hope you will embrace a Christ-centered approach that values each person in your community, guiding them towards deeper faith amidst the noise of our digital world.

4.

Design: To Form

Our ultimate goal (our telos!) is to become more like Christ. In today's media-saturated world, we understand that the content we consume and how we engage with it plays a pivotal role in our spiritual formation. Media captures our attention, and our attention directs our formation.

Our formational design approach acknowledges this reality. We create digital experiences that intentionally guide your congregation's focus towards Christ, transforming ordinary screen time into opportunities for spiritual growth.

We help you design digital touch points that aren't merely informative but transformative. From your website to your email campaigns, every element is crafted with the intention of nurturing your congregation's spiritual journey. This Christ-centered approach to media consumption and creation sets the stage for meaningful engagement and lasting transformation.
